Scotland is the birthplace of Scotch whisky – a spirit with a heritage stretching back over 500 years. The Speyside region alone is home to over 50 working distilleries, producing some of the world's most complex and sought-after single malts. Our expert guide – a qualified whisky educator – leads you through the production process, the art of tasting, and the fascinating stories behind the brands you know and love.

Between distillery visits, you'll explore the extraordinary castles that punctuate Scotland's landscape – from the grandeur of Edinburgh to the medieval romance of Cawdor, the castle Shakespeare immortalised in Macbeth. This is Scotland at its most richly historical and sensory.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Edinburgh – Castles & Scotch Whisky Experience

Arrive in Edinburgh and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon guided tour of the spectacular Edinburgh Castle – home to the Scottish Crown Jewels, the 15th-century Mons Meg cannon, and sweeping views over the city. Evening at the Scotch Whisky Experience on the Royal Mile – a world-class interactive introduction to the five whisky-producing regions of Scotland, including a tutored tasting of five regional styles.

Day 2: Perthshire – Blair Castle & Local Distillery

Drive north through beautiful Perthshire – often called "the Gateway to the Highlands." Morning at the stunning white-turreted Blair Castle – the ancestral home of the Dukes of Atholl and the only place in Europe where a private army (the Atholl Highlanders) may legally be raised. Explore 30 magnificent rooms spanning 700 years of Scottish history. Afternoon at a boutique Perthshire distillery producing a distinctive Highland expression, with a guided tour and tutored tasting.

Day 3: Speyside Whisky Trail – Glenfiddich & The Macallan

Enter the legendary Speyside region – Scotland's whisky heartland, home to more distilleries than anywhere else on earth. Morning exclusive tour of the iconic Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, established in 1887 and still family-owned. See the traditional copper pot stills, the extraordinary warehouses, and taste a range of expressions including rare aged releases. Afternoon premium experience at The Macallan in its stunning new architectural distillery – one of Scotland's most collectible and revered single malts.

Day 4: The Glenlivet & Cawdor Castle

Morning at The Glenlivet Distillery in the picturesque Livet valley – founded in 1824, it was the first distillery to take out a licence under the Excise Act and helped establish legal Scotch whisky production. Guided tour and tutored tasting. After a local lunch, visit the enchanting Cawdor Castle – the 14th-century castle made famous as the setting of Shakespeare's Macbeth ("Hail, Thane of Cawdor!"). Explore the castle's beautiful gardens and labyrinthine rooms.

Day 5: Inverness Market & Departure

Morning at the Inverness Farmers' Market (Saturday departures) or a guided walk around the historic city centre including Inverness Castle overlook and the Victorian Market. Optional visit to Culloden Battlefield – site of the last land battle fought on British soil (1746), where Bonnie Prince Charlie's Jacobite uprising was finally crushed.
